🚨🚨🚨 HEADLINE — the edge cache is eating our internal link building, not just the schema fix

The 9/8 run found that ~50 pages still serve pre-repair HTML from the Cloudflare/WP Engine edge. Two days later it is still unpurged, and today’s run found the part nobody had connected:

8 of 8 internal links injected today are NOT visible on the live web. Every target returned cf-cache-status: HIT with an age of 1.9–6.6 days, while WP REST confirms the anchor IS present at origin (modified 2026-09-10 08:43 PT). The lead-magnet callouts are in the same position.

What this means: Phase 5.5 has been reporting “3–4 links injected” every day since June and counting a REST 200 as a shipped link. It is not one. The link graph exists at origin and only becomes visible to Google whenever an edge object happens to expire on its own. New rule adopted today: a link counts only when confirmed in a live, non-cache-busted fetch of the target URL, and the report now carries both injected_origin and injected_live.

Purge: re-tested from scratch today rather than assumed. wp-rocket/clear-url-cache does exist in the Abilities API. Run against post 1710 it returned success: false — “No cache found for this URL”, and the edge age kept counting up across the call. WP Rocket is not merely unable to clear the edge — it is not the layer serving these pages at all. No agent-side purge exists by any route tested.

🔴 SHAK ACTION (2nd day): purge the WP Engine / Cloudflare edge cache from the dashboard. Until that happens, the 9/8 schema repair, today’s 8 links, and both lead magnets are invisible to Google.

🔧 Addendum — it hit today’s own new posts, and here is the clean proof

Post 2472, same URL, same second:

  • plain URL → cf-cache-status: HIT, age: 727s → lead-magnet callout ABSENT

The page HTML was generated and handed to the edge at publish time (08:41). The lead magnet was injected at 08:45. The edge never re-pulled. Today’s two lead magnets are live on neither new post.

Playbook ordering fix (free, adopted today): the first uncached fetch of a URL freezes whatever origin is serving at that instant — today the Phase 5.8 audit was itself the caching event. Correct sequence is publish → link injection → lead magnet → then the first plain-URL fetch, with every intermediate check cache-busted. This does not cure the staleness (only a purge does), but it stops the agent from freezing out its own same-day work.

Other findings

  • 🔴 bash sandbox dead the entire run (5 identical mount failures). Every Python helper was unrunnable. Substituted Claude-in-Chrome + same-origin authenticated fetch, faithfully re-implementing wp_publish.py‘s schema stack and the injector’s <script>-masking. Second consecutive dead-sandbox session — the Chrome route is now proven, not emergency-only.

Conclusion: the sitemap GENERATOR is healthy. WordPress is missing the rewrite rules that map the pretty sitemap URLs to the generator. Rank Math is not at fault and cache clearing is irrelevant.

Remediation attempted automatically this run (both FAILED to fix it)

  • Rank Math “Links Per Sitemap” nudge via Abilities API: 1000 → 999 → 1000. Both writes returned {"saved":true}. Sitemap still 404.
  • Rank Math Sitemap module toggled OFF then ON via Abilities API (forces re-registration). Both writes saved; module verified back ON. Sitemap still 404.

Rank Math settings writes cannot flush WordPress core rewrite rules, so the API cannot self-heal this failure mode.

✅ THE FIX — 30 seconds, Shak must do this by hand

wp-admin → Settings → Permalinks → click “Save Changes” (change nothing). This flushes and rebuilds the rewrite rules.
Then verify: https://www.skylawgroup.com/sitemap_index.xml must return 200 with <sitemapindex>. If it still 404s, re-save Permalinks once more, then submit the sitemap in Google Search Console to force a re-fetch.

Do NOT use the old “Links Per Sitemap nudge” remediation for this one — it was tested today and does not work when the whole sitemap 404s.

The 8/25 premise rotted on both sides — and this time it was the SPANISH side that failed. Bentley & More, an Orange County firm, now holds a dedicated Spanish helmet page updated for 2026 — on the exact phrase the original scan said nobody had covered. The English side has no OC firm on this intent, so EN is the better geo bet. Reframed mid-run from a “vacuum” play to an accuracy play, which turned out stronger: every rival page in both languages states the legal mechanism wrong in the same way.

The moat. Rivals tell riders their money is cut because they broke the helmet law. That is not the mechanism. Vehicle Code § 27803 has five subdivisions and not one mentions damages, negligence or insurance — it is a traffic infraction.   • CORRECTION (downgrade): All Day Law has published nothing since 8/25 (26 days) and only 40% of the blog is PI — six of ten posts are estate planning/probate. Their PI blog names Orange ZERO times. They self-link a Newport Beach 92660 Avvo profile from the header AND footer of every page.
  • Napolin: the ‘color naranja’ half-fix is TREE-WIDE, not one page — /es/orange/* canonicals and og:urls point back to /es/color-naranja/*, ‘Naranja’ is in the live title tags, og:locale is en_US, and meta-uri-translation:on is documentary proof of machine URL translation. ES Orange blog last modified 2022-04-10 (4.5 years).
